South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands is a British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Stunningly beautiful and rugged, this island wildlife sanctuary, once visited, is not easily forgotten. Its snow covered peaks, blue glacier ice and emerald green bays are breathtaking sights.
It is a real “oasis” in the stormy southern oceans and is home to amazing wildlife like penguins, albatrosses, seals, whales and petrels.

Since joining GSGSSI in 2018 as Director of Fisheries and Environment, Dr Mark Belchier has been responsible for managing an area of extremely remote sub-Antarctic Ocean to ensure the conservation of the region’s extraordinary marine biodiversity. The South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands MPA has become a model for how conservation can be achieved alongside highly precautionary tourism and sustainable fisheries.

Government Announces The Introduction Of The New Electronic Permit System For Visitors For Next Season
The Government of South Georgia & the South Sandwich islands has announced that will launch a new electronic permit system (EPS) for visitors to the Territories in advance of the next tourist season, replacing the current system of levying landing fees by an individual visitor permit charge.

Groundfish Survey Reveals Key Insights Into South Georgia’s Marine Life
The waters surrounding South Georgia, nestled beneath glaciated mountains, are among the most biologically rich in the Southern Ocean. In February, a team of scientists from the British Antarctic Survey and international institutions embarked on an important research expedition to explore the diverse marine life – including groundfish – thriving 300 metres below the surface.

Mackerel Icefish Licensing Open
