Welcome to the live stream of the iconic Dharahara Tower, a monument that beautifully blends Nepal's rich history with modern resilience.
Historical Overview:
Dharahara, also known as Bhimsen Tower, has stood as a symbol of Nepal's heritage for centuries.
First Tower (1824 AD): Built by Mukhtiyar Bhimsen Thapa, the original tower was destroyed in the earthquake of 1834.
Second Tower (1834 AD): Reconstructed under Prime Minister Juddha Shumsher JBR, it too succumbed to the 1934 earthquake.
2015 Earthquake: The devastating earthquake of 2015 reduced the old Dharahara to rubble, leaving a nation mourning its loss.
The New Tower:
From tragedy arose hope. On December 27, 2018, the foundation for the new Dharahara was laid. On April 24, 2021, it was inaugurated by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, marking a historic revival.
A Modern Marvel:
The new Dharahara, built at an estimated cost of NPR 3.48 billion, combines traditional Mughal and neoclassical architecture with modern features, including elevators, a museum, and a panoramic viewing deck.
